Tiki Twirl is a really fun ride.

In the 1960's Cedar Point was adding attractions that would grow its collection. In 1962 guest could see the sights without ever riding a roller coaster when Sky Ride opened in the Main Midway. 1963 brought the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad as well as The Mill Race. Mill Race was only the second Log Flume ride that was ever built. The ever-popular Blue Streak (1964) was the first major roller coaster to open at Cedar Point since 1929. Space Spiral became the tallest ride in the world when it opened in 1965. In 1966 Cedar Point opened Pirate Ride. Pirate Ride was a dark ride that took guest back in time to when pirates ransacked the high seas. Frontiertown opened in 1967. In 1968 SkySlide opened just off the Main Midway. In 1969, Cedar Point added its next roller coaster, Cedar Creek Mine Ride.

1970 was a huge year for Cedar Point. 1970 was the year Cedar Point celebrated it's 100th anniversary and it would do it in a really big way.

In the Marnia Cedar Point added Pet Check, a pet sitting service.

Near the Front of the park Cedar Point added The Centennial Theatre, Calypso, and Hofbrau Gardens.

Kiddieland was expanded to double its size. It was advertised as the largest in the world.

On the Beach Cedar Point added the WildCat Roller Coaster and the Sealand attraction.

The train station was moved back to make way for a new midway. The new midway was called Million Dollar Midway. Million Dollar Midway was home to: Bayern Kurve, Dodgem 2, Himalaya, Monster and Tiki Twirl. The Western Cruise's station was also relocated here and Paddlewheel Cafe opened.

50 years later: All of these attractions have been relocated or removed. 3 of them remain with the same theme they had then.

Tiki Twirl opened at Cedar Point in 1970 as Calypso. In 1970, Calypso was a very heavily themed ride. Calypso replaced the park's original Calypso that opened in 1963. In 1970 the original Calypso was converted into Tiki Twirl.

Calypso quickly became popular.

Over time, the ride would lose a lot of theming. The roofs over the cars were removed and the ride became a skelton of its former self.

Over the years Calypso was moved 5 times. Spending many years on the main midway. In 1994, calypso was moved to the Blue Streak Midway where it remained for 20 years. The ride spent more years in that location then any other.

Calypso made people happy for 44 years at Cedar Point.

When the park closed for the 2014 season, the ride was disassembled carefully and restored as it prepared to be relocated for its 6th time! This time Calypso would be forever changed!

Tiki Twirl
2015

From 1970 - 1984 Cedar Point had a second Calypso ride called Tiki Twirl. The ride was at the far end of the Sky Ride. Tiki Twirl was a Lesley themed Calypso ride. In 1985, Cedar Point removed Tiki Twirl and replaced it with Matterhorn.

In 2015, Cedar Point relocated Calypso to near the Giant Wheel and re-themed it as Tiki Twirl!

In the early spring, Tiki Twirl was reconstructed and put back together on a new ride pad that used to be home to Wicked Twister's entrance plaza.

Tiki Twirl opened on May 9, 2015 in its new location!

The ride was a very welcomed change to the park and was once again very popular!

When The ride opened in 2015, it featured all new colors. The ride was spruced up and was give a new look to make the ride fit in with the section of the park.

Tiki Twirl became really popular when in its new location. The ride was in a spot where guest could easily get to it.

Moving Calypso and renaming, re themed it to Tiki Twirl is proof to Cedar Point's testament to proved the best fun for the entire family, every guest, everyday, every time!

In 2016 Tikki Twirl's cars recived a new color scheme that really made the ride look nice and gave it a refreshemd feel.

Tiki Twirl is a great ride for the whole family! It gives guest an experience like no other Cedar Point ride.

Tiki Twirl was built by Mack Rides. They also built Calypso (1963-1969), Tiki Twirl (1970-1984), Schwabichen (1970-2002), and Super Himalaya (1970).

Ride Experience

The Tiki Twirl ride experience begins with guest entering the line. The line is located directly to the left of the ride.

The wait time for Tiki Twirl is usually 5 minutes. The longest the line gets is 10 minutes.

Riders are assigned to one of 16 cars. Each car holds to people. The car has a seatbelt that both riders share and a lap bar.

Tiki Twirl is a spinning ride table starts spinning around in a clockwise circle.

As the ride starts to spin faster the cars also start spinning in a counter-clockwise rotation.

The Spinning makes for close encounters. The Cars come really close to each other as they spin.

Tiki Twirl is a really fun ride. Riders are sure to laugh and giggle on this ride.

Tiki Twirl is a 1 minute and 35 second ride.

As the ride slows down the cars stop spinning. When the table stops spinning the ride is over.
