Sky Ride
1962
Sky Ride opened in 1962 over Cedar Point's Main Midway. Sky Ride is Cedar Point's aerial ride.
The early 1950's was a bad time for Cedar Point. In the 1950's Cedar Point was a decaying place. The park was still trying to recover form the depression. In 1956 Cedar Point was bought by George Roose and Emile Legros brought Cedar Point and planned on turning the park into housing a development. Due to public outcry, the new investors decided to turn Cedar Point into " The Disneyland of the Midwest:". As a result, rides stated getting bigger and better. Caddallic Cars were added in 1958 and were so successful that Turnpike Cars were built in 1959. In 1961 Western Cruise used the old lagoon to take guest on a trip thru the past. These new addiction meant the park was going to grow.
Frontier Lift closed in 1985 and was removed from the park to make room for future expansion. For 1986, Frontier Lift's cars would replace Sky Ride's cars. For the first few years the cars had the same paint and colors as they did when they were on the Frontier Lift. They were eventually repainted.

Ride Experience
Sky Ride has two loading stations.
The stations are located at: -By Midway Carousel -Between Scrambler and Matterhorn. |
Sky Ride is a great ride for guest who want a great view and guest that don't wish to talk to the other side of the park.
Sky Ride gives guest great views of the front of the park as well as the Cedar Point Marina. A ride on Sky Ride last about 2 minutes. Sky Ride is a very fun experience for the entire family to enjoy together. It is a very unique ride that can only be found in a few amusement parks, but none have the view that Cedar Point has. |
