Monster
1970

Monster is a spinning ride that opened at Cedar Point in 1970.

Monster is a great ride for the entire family to enjoy together! 

In the 1960's Cedar Point was adding attractions that would grow their collection. In 1962 guest could see the sights without ever riding a roller coaster when Sky Ride opened in the Main Midway.  1963 brought the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad as well as The Mill Race. Mill Race was only the second Log Flume ride that was ever built. The ever-popular Blue Streak (1964)  was the first major roller coaster to open at Cedar Point since 1929. Space Spiral became the tallest ride in the world when it opened in 1965. In 1966 Cedar Point opened Pirate Ride. Pirate Ride was a dark ride that took guest back in time to when pirates ransacked the high seas. Frontiertown opened in 1967. In 1968 SkySlide opened just off the Main Midway. In 1969, Cedar Point added its next roller coaster, Cedar Creek Mine Ride. 

1970 was a huge year for Cedar Point. 1970 was the year Cedar Point celebrated it's 100th anniversary and it would do it in a really big way. 

In the Marnia Cedar Point added Pet Check, a pet sitting service. 

Near the Front of the park Cedar Point added The Centennial Theatre, Calypso,  and Hofbrau Gardens. 

​Kiddieland was expanded to double its size. It was advertised as the largest in the world. 

On the Beach Cedar Point added the WildCat Roller Coaster and the Sealand attraction. 

The train station was moved back to make way for a new midway. The new midway was called Million Dollar Midway. Million Dollar Midway was home to: Bayern Kurve, Dodgem 2, Himalaya, Monster and Tiki Twirl. The Western Cruise's station was also relocated here and Paddlewheel Cafe opened. 

50 years later: All of these attractions have been relocated or removed. 3 of them remain with the same theme they had then.

Monster opened in 1970 on the Million Dollar Midway.  Monster was located on the right side of the midway between Western Cruise and the Frontier Lift. 

For the 1987 season Cedar Point built Iron Dragon. Iron Dragon took the location of Western Cruise, Frontier Lift and Monster. To make room for Iron Dragon, Frontier Lift was retired, Western Cruise was relocated to the Gemini Midway where it got a new name and them, Paddlewheel Excursions. Monster was also relocated to it's present day location on the Gemini Midway. 

Monster is a classic ride for the entire family to enjoy! Monster is rapidly becoming a unique ride. As of 2020, there are only 5 of these rides around. There were only 22 of these rides ever built that were park models. 

Monster Gets A Facelift. 

For the 2014 season Cedar Point gave the Gemini Midway a makeover. As part of this makeover, Monster received a major upgrade. 

At the entrance to the ride, Monster got its first entrance sign. The entrance sign was really welcoming for guest! The sign featured bright colors and displayed the rides new logo. 

The ride also got new LED nights. The lights really help bring the midway alive at night. 

The most noticeable part of the upgrade was the new colors! Monster received all new bright colors!

Even tho the ride received a major makeover, it still is the same ride it always was. The new color scheme helped the ride move into the future!

Monster was built by Everly Aircraft Company. Eyerly Aircraft would go on to build several other rides before they went out of business in 1990.

Ride Experience

The Monster ride experience begins with riders entering the ride's line. Guest are greeted to a really nice sign.  The ride is located up against Gemini. 

Rides are loaded into small cars. Each car fits two people. This ride has no seatbelts.  The ride operator comes around and locks the car. 

Monster Spins Riders around in a clockwise circle. The ride lifts riders up and down while its spinning.  Each car is also spinning in a circle. 

Monster has a ton of airtime!  As the cars are spinning and the ride goes up and down you get fantastic airtime. Monster has more airtime then a lot of roller coaster do. 

Halfway into the ride, it stops at the top. The ride stops so the other cars on the other side of the ride can be loaded. 

The ride then continues and you get another trip thru the ride. After about two minions of spring the ride comes to a stop and riders are unloaded. 

Monster is a great ride that is a family classic. Riders are sure to laugh and giggle on this ride!

After Monster opened in 1970, Cedar Point would add things that would bring something for the entire family to do including 23 roller coasters. Over the years the following attractions opened at Cedar Point: Frontier Trail (1971), Giant Wheel (1972), Jumbo Jet (1972-1978), Cedar Point Cinema (1975-2001), Corkscrew (1976), Witches' Wheel (1977-2018), Gemini (1978), Gemini Childrean's Area (1979-2013), Oceana (1980-1998), Ocean Motion (1981), White Water Landing (1982-2005), Demon Drop (1983-2009), Avalanche Run (1985-1989), Thunder Canyon (1986), Iron Dragon (1987), Soak City Water Park (1988-2016), Magnum XL-200 (1989), Disaster Transport (1990-2012), Mean Streak (1991-2016), Berenstain Bear Country's playground (1992-1999), Challenge Park (1992-2016), Snake River Falls (1993), Raptor (1994) Cedar Point's 125th Anniversary Celebration (1995), Mantis (1996-2014), Chaos (1997-2010), Power Tower (1998), Camp Snoopy (1999), Millennium Force (2000), Wicked Twister (2002), Good Time Theater (2002-2014), Top Thrill Dragster (2003), Castaway Bay (2004), maXair (2005), Skyhawk (2006), Maverick (2007), Planet Snoopy (2008), Shoot The Rapids (2010-2015), WindSeeker (2011), Dinosaurs Alive! on Adventure Island (2012-2018), GateKeeper (2013), New Gemini Midway (2014) Rougarou (2015), Valravn  (2016), Cedar Point Shores Water Park (2017), Steel Vengeance ( 2018), Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island (2019), and Cedar Point's 150th Anniversary (2021).

All of these new attractions have given Cedar Point something new for guest to experience. 

Monster is a great ride for the entire family to enjoy together. It continues to thrill people 50 years after it opened. 

Riders must be 46 inches tall to ride Monster alone. Guest under 46 inches tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion. Hand held infants are not permitted.
